2018 Blues Festival line-up includes:
The JUNO nominated Blackburn brothers -- Duane (lead vocals), Brooke (guitar), Cory (drums) and Robert (harmony vocals and songwriting on the newest release) -- all share a name that has become truly connected to Toronto music history. Musically, the Blackburn name has been forever imprinted in our ears by Bobby Dean Blackburn, an R&B artist who gained legendary status in the Toronto music scene, performing the city circuit for over 30 years. Beyond the music, other history runs deep too. The Blackburn name is tied to the history of the Underground Railroad, and there is a direct connection to the musical talents that we know and listen to today. A thread of Soul in almost every track the band records. Blackburn received the Maple Blues Award for BEST NEW BAND in 2010, and a JUNO nomination for BLUES ALBUM OF THE YEAR in 2016.
Sue Foley returns to her roots for THE ICE QUEEN, her 11th solo release, featuring all new original songs and showcasing her singular guitar style. Recorded old-school ‘live and in the room,’ it features the likes of Jimmie Vaughan (The Fabulous Thunderbirds, solo artist), Billy F Gibbons ( ZZ Top), Chris ‘Whipper’ Layton (Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble), Charlie Sexton (The Arc Angels, Bob Dylan), Johnny Bradley (Gary Clark Jr. Band), JJ Johnson (Tedeschi Trucks Band) and a who’s who of the legendary Austin, Texas blues scene.
The 2016 JUNO Award winner has raised the bar yet again with WHO U TELLIN’? Firmly established as one of the 21st Century’s foremost Blues singer/ songwriters, Harrison has enlisted the talents of JIMMY BOWSKILL (Sheepdogs, Blue Rodeo), Co-Producer ALEC FRASER (Jeff Healey band, Fraser Daley) and fellow Juno winners JACK DE KEYZER and JULIAN FAUTH on the 12 down home originals and 1 cover “Patches”, which were recorded at Toronto’s Lincoln Park Social Club studio. Harrison’s dynamic vocal gifts, which have won him worldwide acclaim going all the way back to his days as a founding member of the million selling Detroit Soul Super Group the Chairmen of the Board in the 70’s, are aptly showcased here on the new album. LIVING BLUES magazine says it best “Harrison Kennedy is a modern Blues Master of True Substance”.
